Systematic organization, knowledge of physics, analysis, communications, careful first-hand observations, and team-playing are used to advance the state of the art.   Documentation is prepared to acquire the necessary and sufficient data, support accountability, provide the final audit trail, and ensure the sound basis for further product improvements.
To be specific, documentation includes proposals, engineering requirements specifications, cost and schedule estimates, analysis reports, developmental test reports with technical depth, formal qualification test reports, failure diagnoses, progress or status reports, and confidential innovations presented for decision.   As in any project, no battle plan survives contact with reality unscathed.   Expect obstacles; find work-arounds to stay on budget and on schedule.
While BEI's concept, model, test, and troubleshooting experience is focused on certain customer-specific areas, it also shows how a variety of engineering experience can be brought to bear on other engineering problems.
